The department has been associated with three important journals over the years. It publishes the Indian Economic Review, several faculty members edit the Indian Economic and Social History Review, and for many years it housed the Journal of Quantitative Economics. Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen was a faculty member of the school, and taught here for over eight years The faculty members and alumni have significant achievements. The Department of Commerce started a one-year full-time Post-graduate Diploma in International Marketing (PGDIM) in the year 1985-86.
